I grew up in the East Bay within a competitive household (to say the least.) As an older brother of two D-1 athletes, competition was in the air at all times. My mother and father believed that the life lessons derived from competition and athletics would be invaluable down the road.

In high school, football and baseball were my sports of choice. By my senior year in 2005, I was an all county selection and decided to continue my playing career at Santa Barbara City College. It was my first fall semester at SBCC where I was exposed to a strict and regimented strength and conditioning program. This program ultimately concluded with a final endurance test amongst all teammates, consisting of strenuous land and ocean conditioning. I won the SBCC Strength & Conditioning Award my freshman year, but more importantly discovered a new interest.

The physical and mental gain experienced from pushing myself beyond my “limitations” was truly eye opening. I found the continuous testing and strengthening of my mental fortitude to be more gratifying than the aesthetic results. So I thought, what would really push my mental and physical limits? For someone who rarely biked, swam, or ran for distance, the answer was easy…triathlons!

In two years, I competed in marathon (26.2m run), 3 half distance triathlons, and 5 full distance triathlons (2.4m swim, 112m bike, 26.2m run). Along with a few aches and pains came a great level of insight and knowledge of the human body. I was forced to become a student of understanding the human body and it’s potential.

I’ve learned a great deal throughout my health and fitness journey and my hope is to pass this knowledge onto you!

My Approach and Philosophy!

My approach and philosophy is simple. I want to take what I’ve learned throughout my health and fitness journey and adapt it to your fitness and nutritional needs and goals. Whether you are someone who is highly active or someone who may only have a few hours a week to spare, there is a place for you! From rehabilitation techniques and performance training to general weight loss modalities, I am here to cater to each and every individual.

The foundation of my program is based on “functional strength and conditioning” methods and proper nutrition.

What is functional strength training?

It is a collection of exercises that translate into our day to day activities. Cleaning the house, playing with your kids, hiking etc. Too often we find ourselves throwing out our back after yard work or experiencing knee pain after a rigorous hike. Functional strength training, when approached in a methodical manner will allow you to perform your daily activities with greater ease, thus allowing your body to sustain the physical demands of day to day life.

With that being said, I focus on three main components of the body which play an essential foundational role regardless of what one’s goals may be:

• Mobility,

• Stability

• Strength

Mobility and stability within the hips, shoulders, ankles and spine  followed by stability and strength in the core. Taking care of these  components will position any individual to attack their goals with greater ease and confidence.

A tree needs a solid trunk and deep roots in order to stand the test of time and that’s how I like to think of the human body taking on the physical demands that life brings.

  • Focus

  • Intensity

  • Discipline

  • Enthusiasm

  • Commitment
